FRIEZE

I had a chance to work for FRIEZE with producer/director Maria Kennedy.

It’s great to work on projects that highlight emerging artists.

Here are two artists we made films about: Precious Okoyomon who won 2021 Frieze Artist Award and Dana Lok who presented a solo show with Clima at Frieze New York 2021.

To watch full films click on the artist’s name or watch Instagram short versions below.

"Feeding Lewisham" is getting global recognition

A documentary “Feeding Lewisham - Foodbanks in crisis” dir. Cara Bowen is being screened at film festivals globally. I edited the film during the lockdown in 2020 when I was unemployed for several months because of the pandemic.

I wanted to help out my community by being involved in the making of the film that highlights the problem of poverty in the UK. The documentary centres around the work of a charity group We Care Food Bank - Corona Community Support Network. During the pandemic it provides food to around 5000 people and pets in need of support.

The film now has been recognised internationally and it’s been screened at the festivals globally: New York City International Film Festival, Canada Short Film Festival, Five Continents International Film Festival in Venezuela and London International Short Film Festival.

Feeding Lewisham inspires and also serves as a piece of historical evidence of a time in British history where for so many the only support they had in a time of crisis was each other.

Get involved and support the We Care Food Pantry and Kath’s Place. Please donate by following the link here.

If you want to know more about the film or the charity please follow the links: Londonnewsonline, The Canary.

Golden Frog at Camerimage 2020 goes to DOP Mehdi Azadi!

DOP Mehdi Azadi won a Golden Frog Grand Prix at Camerimage for his work on a short documentary - A Horse Has More Blood Than A Human directed by Abolfazl Talooni and produced by Anna Snowball at Snow Films.

"The camera person in this film didn’t just make beautiful images, he really looked. This film is shot with great delicacy and tact. We sensed real love and respect for the people he was filming. The camera foregrounded the protagonist in the film, not the filmmaking. So we were able to enjoy the landscape without ever feeling detached from the people. And so the film never felt intrusive or forced. This is a heartbreaking, haunting film, made with passion. It tells a unique story but feels universal." - Kim Longinotto, documentary director and Documentary Shorts Competition Jury President at Camerimage 2020.

Congratulations Mehdi! A well deserved award for your incredible cinematography!
